This week, May 17-23, celebrates the significant contribution of Australia’s six million volunteers dedicating over 600 million hours to help others. The theme for NVW 2021 is:
Recognise – celebrate and thank volunteers for the vital role they play in our lives.
Reconnect – to what is important by giving our time to help others and ourselves.
Reimagine – how we better support volunteers and communities they help.
Homestyle Aged Care have many volunteers that support our residents and contribute to a variety of activities, but we always welcome more! We aim to create a stimulating environment for our residents, and this means running many activities, events and programs for them every day.
Each one of our homes has a community feel, and volunteers make a real contribution to that community. We want our residents to enjoy a homely environment and encourage them to have an active social life. Companionship and stimulation are key to a friendly and social environment and volunteers play an important role in this.
No matter your skills, experience or hobbies we can find a voluntary role that works for you. For instance, we have volunteer art teachers helping with our Lifestyle Program, but a voluntary role could be as simple as chatting with our residents over morning or afternoon tea or filling in a quiz together to keep our residents’ minds active and sharp.
When you volunteer at Homestyle you will be given training and support to carry out the tasks in our homes that you wish to undertake. You choose your availability and the number of hours you wish to work. Our volunteers become part of our community, because they are truly valued and appreciated. For a rewarding experience consider volunteering in Aged Care.
All volunteers play a vital role and make a huge difference to our Homestyle Community. When we help others in our community or give our time to a cause we value, we also give back to ourselves. For more information visit National Volunteer Week
