Every week Lifestyle Co-ordinator, Jennifer Storey personally invites residents from Amaroo Gardens aged care facility to afternoon tea at the Rose Cafe.
Named in honour of Rose unit, Amaroo Garden’s memory support community, Rose Cafe is a unique concept which enables residents who are not as mobile as they once were, to enjoy ‘going out’ for afternoon tea in their weekly pop-up cafe, without actually having to leave the building.
The Rose Cafe is the brain child of Amaroo Garden’s lifestyle team and is a favoured activity for memory support residents. The cafe provides residents with the opportunity to socialise in a relaxed and safe environment, whilst enjoying a delicious home baked afternoon tea.
Situated close to residents’ rooms, and in full view of the stunning internal fernery, they can enjoy a cappuccino, latte or pot of tea, along with ribbon sandwiches and a selection of cakes.
Jennifer says one of the main benefits is that time spent at the pop-up cafe stimulates memories of past events and encourages conversation.
“Taking part in afternoon tea at Rose Cafe helps resident reminisce about the old days when they’d travel into the city and enjoy high tea at Myer or David Jones as part of their shopping day.
We set out fine china and tablecloths, with flowers on the tables to transform the lounge area for the residents.
I always make sure there is sponge cake, and background music to capture the style and feel as if they were out at a real cafe,” she said.
Family and friends of residents are most welcome to join us for afternoon tea at Rose Cafe. Contact Amaroo Gardens on 9759 0200 for opening days and times.
