Independence Day in India is celebrated annually on August 15th. It is a National Holiday that marks India’s Independence from British Rule.
At Homestyle’s Point Cook Manor Residence there are a number of Indian staff who shared this celebration with their colleagues and residents. This is the 2ndtime this occasion was celebrated; the first time was in 2016.
Staff and residents alike had a wonderful time commemorating Indian Independence Day. The Lounge Area was decorated with a large Indian Flag and in the Dining Room the tables had beautiful flowers displayed on each table. Lunch was served with typical Indian food – although not too spicy or hot for our elderly residents. Dishes included Butter Chicken, Vegetable Pilaf Rice, Poori, Tempered Potato & Vegetables with mustard & curry leaves, cucumber raita and dessert was the dry fruit Payasam.
Indian Music and dances were shown on the TV. Some of the kitchen staff even entertained residents with a dance performance after lunch!

Thank you to our wonderful staff who brought a touch of India to our residents for the day and to the talented chefs for their delicious Indian cuisine!
