When Anthea Abbott started working at our Belmont Grange Residence 30 years ago, it was known as Belmont Lodge, and her role encompassed many different areas. Anthea would help out in the laundry, in the kitchen, serve breakfast and hand out the medications. These days there are individual positions for each of these functions, and Anthea is a Personal Carer. Back then, the Lodge was established as a Supportive Residential Service – non-funded, and the residents were a lot younger, and living independently. Nowadays the residents are, generally speaking, older and need a higher level of care, and Residences are Government Funded.
Anthea has seen staff and residents come and go, but she continues to thoroughly enjoy working at Belmont Grange. She feels it’s like her second family and the pleasant atmosphere and morale keep her coming to work. Over the years, Anthea has had her favourite residents and has gotten to know the little idiosyncrasies and preferences residents have, she feels like she can make a difference by brightening their days and attending to the Residents with her continuity of care.
Anthea and her husband have a booked a trip to Italy for a few weeks in August, that she is very much looking forward to. As to where Anthea sees herself in 5 years’ time, she hopes to be retired and sitting on a beach drinking cocktails, but you never know, you may still see her at Belmont Grange, on reduced hours, as she admits it may well be hard to leave!
Congratulations, and best wishes Anthea, on 30 years of dedicated and tremendous service at our Belmont Grange Residence.
