Ray Beckerley, 78, has been a resident at our Clarendon Grange home in Bayswater for 12 years. He has had a lifelong enthusiasm for racing cars, and even whilst living in Aged Care still pursues that passion!
Ray approached Homestyle in 2020 to see if we would be interested in sponsoring the V8 Commodore race car his friend Graeme Meer drives and Ray works on, and the rest is history as they say! Ray now has the title of Crew Chief!
With the racing season interrupted by covid restrictions, and then there was a 5 month rebuild on the Commodore, that took considerable funds and countless man hours. Finally the beast took to the track again at Winton Raceway in late August for it’s first test day.
In early September Ray and Graeme attended a two day race meeting at Phillip Island, hitting speeds of 270km per hour! Competing in a number of races coming 1st and 2nd over the weekend, they finished up 2nd overall behind the Championship winner that weekend. Congrats and well done guys!!! 👊🏎🥇
The team are very much looking forward to the ride day – ‘The Hot Lap’ at Winton on Cup Day. There may or may not be a few Homestyle staff enjoying a few hot laps in the beast!!! 😁😱😲
After that, Ray and Graeme have their fingers crossed to compete in ‘Island Magic’ at Phillip Island in December.🤞 There’s never a dull moment with racing cars, that’s for sure! 🏎
