If you’re a family member or friend of a resident at our Ferndale Gardens home, you’ll know just how active, fun, vigorous and committed our Lifestyle Team are managing and running our Programs.
The Lifestyle Team of Helen, Jacqui, Linda, and Diane love to see our Residents’ smiles, hear their laughter and have everyone join in the spirit of the fun and frivolity of the occasion. The Ferndale Arts and Crafts Program is assisted by our Resident Val’s daughter, Ruth, once an Arts Teacher. Ruth kindly volunteers her time once a week lending a hand with costume design, decorations and much more.
The residents recently enjoyed celebrating Easter. The staff dressed up as Easter Bunnies, the residents made their own Easter Bonnets, the Waratah Lounge was decorated with hand-made signs and Easter memorabilia and a mouth-watering afternoon tea was served. There were even special guests in attendance; some beautiful little chicks that the residents enjoyed holding and patting. A tremendous and memorable day was had by all.
Each week ‘Active Games’ are held in the lounge. One week it is Ten Pin Bowling and then the next week it is Mini Golf. As our photos show, the competition is real! Side by side two teams compete for the week’s Ferndale Champions. All activities are modified to each resident’s ability, so everyone is included. Then there’s Bingo – at least three times a week! According to Lifestyle Manager Helen, there’s never enough Bingo to be had for the residents!
Activities and Events at Ferndale are always well thought out and executed! First, it is the idea, then the planning, the activities involved, the decorations, the costumes and not to mention the delicious food to be served! The camaraderie, positivity and enjoyment foster conversations and creates special memories for the residents to reflect on later.
The next event to be held is Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea. Plans are already underway for all things yellow and, with the Olympic Games on this year, you can be sure there will be the Ferndale Games too. Activities will include Balloon Volleyball, Shooting Targets and if you can believe it, even Walker Races!
