A double milestone of dual centenaries was recently celebrated at Belmont Grange.
Resident Basil Smith celebrating his 100th birthday, was visited by Air Commodore Greg Frisina from the RAAF, commemorating 100 years of service.
Basil was married to Irene in 1945 and together they raised their family in Geelong. Basil’s son Greg said the RAAF was a very important part of Basil’s early life, and his dad was very proud of his military service, having served during World War II. Basil was stationed in Cairns, where he specialised in the electrical aspects of the aircraft.
Veteran Basil was bestowed a RAAF centenary commemorative plaque during a special presentation. Air Commodore Frisina said “This initiative provides a unique opportunity to honour a significant milestone of some of our centenarian veterans across the country. It was an honour and a privilege to meet Basil and his family and so joyous to see the smile on his face as he recalled the days of service to our nation”
Happy Birthday Basil, we are so proud of you and your achievements, and to the RAAF on their milestone of turning 100, congratulations!
