Homestyle major sponsor for ‘Walk in the Park’

Homestyle Aged Care is proud to be the major sponsor for Walk in the Park Geelong, a fundraising event for Parkinson’s Victoria. At their recent event, held on July 3rd, over thirty people gathered at Belmont Grange, one of our three residences on the Bellarine Peninsula, to launch this year’s walk. The 2km fundraising walk will take place on Sunday September 8th, at beautiful Eastern Park in Geelong, circuiting the picturesque Botanic Gardens.

Kirsten George, the organiser of Homestyle’s Walk in the Park launch event, is a supporter of Parkinson’s Victoria as her father Graeme lives with the condition. Kirsten was joined at the event by her uncle, a resident at Belmont Grange, as well as her parents Kaye and Graeme. The event was also attended by Homestyle Aged Care General Manager Lee Slater, Christine Couzins MP, Emma Collin CEO of Parkinson’s Victoria, Janine Wilde of Prestige Inhome Care, representatives from Geelong Parkinson’s Support Group, some Homestyle staff and residents and a number of individuals, caregivers and families who are impacted by Parkinson’s. Between 2 and 4pm attendees enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea of hot and cold hors d’oeuvres, continental cakes and slices. The chicken kiev bites were a hit with the guests!

Some highlights from the afternoon included hearing from representatives of a program facilitated by Geelong’s St John of God Hospital, providing a creative outlet for those living with Parkinson’s. Some of the participants’ artworks were displayed for attendees to enjoy. There was also singing and dancing, with a particular focus on highlighting programs designed to support people with Parkinson’s and their caregivers. Parkinsong a singing program, and Dance for Parkinson’s, both aim to build confidence, engage the senses, promote joy, strengthen muscles and foster social connections in a safe, welcoming environment.

At this year’s event, Homestyle Aged Care hopes to have at least fifty staff from across its’ residences participating in the walk. They plan to dress up and enjoy a fun day out with members of the local community. Walk in the Park is a major fundraiser for Parkinson’s Victoria, to raise vital funds to support those living with Parkinson’s, their caregivers and families.
