Spending time with our extended family over the Christmas/New Year’s period can also mean we have had the opportunity to notice changes and decline from the previous year in our parent’s health. Perhaps you’ve realised that one parent is relying heavily on the other and needs some respite care.
What is Respite?
Respite care in aged care is short-term care available to a person and their care giver. Respite care provides help for carers so that they can take part in everyday activities or have a break whilst ensuring that the person receiving care is being looked after.
How to Access Respite at Homestyle
At Homestyle each facility differs in what they offer in regards to respite care, so you would need to contact the individual facility.
Initially you will need to undergo an ACAS assessment with an ACAS assessor to see what level of care you will need. Respite care is usually booked in advance and is available for a total of 63 days a year in Victoria, but it dependent upon availability at the individual Homestyle home.
What is the Cost?
The cost for respite is only $50.66 no matter what your care needs are.
You will not have to pay an accommodation fee or any additional means tested care fees with respite care. You will however need to pay the basic daily fee.
